Hope Packs
...‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
Matthew 22:39
In 2023 a former secular employee of JT’s named Kathy Orr was listening to the My Brothers' Crossing radio show. Out of her awareness of how much JT and Terri-Lee traveled she had a vision of supplying backpacks with basic hygiene and personal care items that could be distributed to those in need.
Soon after Kathy brought this idea to JT's attention, he realized that it would be perfect for the residents that are just coming into the Hope Center. Using the Danville Hope Center as a pilot, the backpacks were distributed to all Phase 1 residents at this location. The response was overwhelming in terms of meeting a need for the residents and their appreciation of these backpacks. Many of the people who are coming into the Hope Center are often coming off the streets or from jail and don't even have items of basic necessity.
It was an overwhelming success at the Danville Hope Center. The other four centers in the region were polled to gauge their interest in receiving what would be relabeled as "Hope Packs". Now every person who enters any of the six Hope Centers (four male, two women) are given a Hope Pack upon arrival.
A lot of love goes into each Hope Pack. Now, there are many people who contribute items to each Hope Pack and those people who purchase each item that goes into the packs will pray over them before they give them to Kathy. Then the people who transport the Hope Packs will pray over them again. They are prayed over because it is their desire that the recipient will know they are significant, they matter, and most importantly they will experience the love of Christ.
This project has gone to the next level now as My Brothers’ Crossing has partnered with Full Armor Custom Apparel to make the custom backpacks with the ministry logo on them. They are also made in both green and light blue. The green Hope Packs are for women and the blue Hope Packs are for the men The following message is also included in every Hope Pack:
